I don't know about the 6R80 but on the previous models with 4R75 a converter was around $700 and installation would probably run in the neighborhood of $500-$750 depending on shop and labor rates. My guess is that for the 6R80 those prices would go up.

I also installed a B & M deep tranny pan with a drain plug. My 4.2 sport with a 4R70W tranny does have a drain plug on the torque converter.
